男性藍精靈：
開始的時候，除542歲長一臉漂亮白鬍子的老施通福穿紅衣服外(沒有藍媽媽回也是比較奇答怪，不知道藍爸爸是怎麼搞出這一堆藍精靈來的？)，其他的小人長得都一模一樣：藍色的身子，圓圓的腦袋，四個手指，屁股上還長個尾巴根兒，身高約三個蘋果，住在蘑菇形房子里。人們只能根據他們的特點、愛好、舉止或者待人接物的態度加以區分。如戴眼鏡的整天要訓戒人(聰聰？)，愛打扮的老是在照鏡子(藍妹妹)，愛開玩笑的經常把一包不傷人的炸葯放在禮品盒裡分送給別人(樂樂要不是就是鬧鬧)；好埋怨的不論發生什麼事，他總是說：「我討厭這樣。」(厭厭)
女性藍精靈：
當時，所有的施通福都是男性。由於畫家妻子提出指責，於是佩約就命令巫師格格梅爾去做一個女性的。巫師用了許多種不同配料，其中有蝰蛇的舌粉和鱷魚的三滴眼淚創造出褐發、輕飄專橫的饒舌女人，然後再把她變成一個討人喜歡的金發施通福。這就是藍妹妹，她有一頭誇張的金色卷發，以及超厚的鮮紅嘴唇，而且，她穿高跟鞋。
